The EP “Modules”

Modules is an instrumental EP built around the meeting point between acoustic expression, modular synthesis and a distinctly Nordic sense of melancholy.

The four pieces — Module #1 through Module #4 — are conceived as separate musical modules rather than conventional songs. Each piece develops its own movement, texture and atmosphere, allowing the music to unfold gradually through repetition, small shifts and contrasts between sound and silence.

The music draws on the tradition of Nordic folk melodies and Swedish hymns, as well as the spaciousness and subtle melancholy of Nordic jazz. These influences are not presented as quotations, but appear more as traces within the melodies, harmonies and phrasing. There is also a sense of the restrained, slightly austere character that runs through much of Nordic music.

Acoustic instruments such as piano, guitar, flute, marimba and bass are combined with synthesizers and the unusual timbres of the Doepfer Trautonium. The electronic sounds are not used to create a futuristic surface, but as another form of musical expression alongside the acoustic instruments.

The result is music that moves between the organic and the electronic, the familiar and the unfamiliar — sometimes melodic and intimate, sometimes more abstract and spacious. Rather than following a traditional verse-and-chorus structure, Modules allows the individual elements to interact and evolve, leaving room for silence, resonance and the listener’s own interpretation.

Modules is a collection of pieces shaped by Nordic melancholy, acoustic warmth and modular thinking — music intended less to demand attention than to create a space in which to listen.
